A press release - Pig gut microbiome

A press release - More than 7 million bacteria in the pig gut

Inra and their international partners published a catalogue of genes for the porcine intestinal microbiome. This is a first for livestock species, arriving after those of men in 2010 and mice in 2015.

The pig is a major world livestock species used for food; it is also largely used as an animal model for biomedical studies.

These studies, carried out following Inra's intitiative, lead to important perspectives for the understanding of itneractions between the host, the gut microbiome and the environment. They provide major resources for biomedical research and farming. They were published on 19 September in the journal Nature Microbiology.
