A visit from Joan Lunney to GABI on June 18-19, 2015

Joan Lunney works in Beltsville, Maryland, close to Washington DC. She is a member of the USDA ARS Beltsville Agricultural Research Center. ARS is the equivalent of INRA in the USA.

Joan is a pioneer in looking at genetic variability of disease susceptibility in pigs. She is an expert on the major histocompatibility complex and more generally on pig immunology. She leads the US UK swine immune Toolkit collaborative project, very helpful for those who are looking for antibodies available for the pig species. Joan co-leads the very large US PRRS Host Genetics Consortium. In the framework of this consortium, she presented their most recent results and further applications: “Pursuing porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) control alternatives with translational genomics”.
