Creation of the INRA/BAIF Associated International Laboratory (LIA), GIMIC "Genetic IMprovement of Indian Cattle and Buffaloes"

Inra in India: a new LIA reinforces our research partnership with the BAIF for rural, environmental and food security development.

In order to reinforce existing partnerships of INRA in India on global challenges like sustainable development, environmental protection and food security, Girish Sohani, President of the BAIF Development Research Foundation, the largest Indian ONG in agricultural sciences and a long-standing partner of INRA, visited INRA on March 21 and 22 and met with INRA's CEO, Philippe Mauguin.

The two partners congratulated themselves for the creation of the Associated International Laboratory (LIA) "Genetic IMprovement of Indian Cattle and buffaloes", established between the joint research unit GABI (Animal Genetics and Integrative Biology, Animal Genetics Division) of INRA Jouy-en-Josas and the BAIF in India.

The LIA GIMIC develops fundamental and applied research activities for the development of sustainable selection programs for local bovine breeds that produce little but that are adapted to tropical climatic conditions in production systems for small herds and low inputs. This meeting gave scientists, doctoral and other students the chance to have training sessions and share and discuss research.

The two leaders Girish Sohani and Philippe Mauguin shared the documents of the creation of the LIA, in the presence of Vincent Ducrocq, INRA coordinator of the LIA.
