H2020 European Project SAPHIR

Kick-off of the European project, SAPHIR

GABI is coordinator and partner of the European project, SAPHIR, which was kicked-off on May 11, 12 and 13, 2015 in Jouy-en-Josas.

The seminar for the kick-off of the european project SAPHIR (Strengthening Animal Production and Health through the Immune Response) was held in Jouy-en-Josas on May 11,12 and 13, 2015.

This project, financed by the Horizon 2020 program (SFS-01b-2014: Tackling losses from terrestrial animal diseases), began on March 1 2015 for a period of four years. Coordinated by Isabelle Schwatz-Cornil (INRA, the Virology and Molecular Immunology Unit, Jouy-en-Josas) and co-coordinated by Marie-Hélène Pinard van der Laan (Genetics, Immunity and Health team of GABI), the project implicates 14 academic partners (research institutes, universities …) from 12 countries, 5 SME, a management partner, a European forum representing farmers and a large pharmaceutical company.

Scientists from the GIS team of GABI coordinate a workpackage dedicated to the search for biomarkers and predictive genetic markers for vaccine response, in partnership with the Parco Technologico Padano (Lodi, Italy) and the University of Edimbourg. The targets are vaccinations against the virus responsible for PRRSV in piglets and Mycoplasma Hyopneumonia in pigs and Eimeria and Clostridium in chickens. This workpackage offers an original approach associating genetics and vaccinology.

We also participate, in partnership with EFFAB (the European Forum of Farm Animal Breeders), in communicating on the project results with public, scientific and private actors and in the integration of vaccinology in a more global strategy for the integrated management of health in animal production, notably by creating a site dedicated to this.

SAPHIR is one of the key projects for the Sciences Animales Paris Saclay on the new strategies for health in farming: improved vaccination and immune competency.
