Pint of Science Festival – Men at the heart of animal selection

Anna-Charlotte Doublet and Etienne Verrier enjoyed an evening with approximately fifty 25 participants who were present at the Gramphone at Orsay on Monday May 14, 2018 to discuss animal selection and the role of MEN in this multi-milleniummillennium process.

After being warmly welcomed by the organizers of the Pint of Science, Anna-Charlotte presented dairy cow selection from the point of view of her doctoral studies. The participants then played a general scientific quiz with prizes for the winners. Before correcting the quiz together and distributing the prizes, Etienne gave a talk on animal selection from the birth of domestication through today and he finished with hyper-specialized types and ethics limitations of selection.

The public, for the most part made of students from Orsay’s University and its vicinity, appreciated the subject and the discussion was very rich with many pertinent questions. This was a good experience that they recommend to do at least once, either as a speaker or as the public. And, it is an original way to contribute to the Science - Society debate!
