Until 2019, the unit's scientific studies revolved around four research axes.

Research Axes

 Genetic variability and trait variations

This axe includes our work on phenotyping and new phenotypes, genetic architecture of simple and complex traits, identification of causal mutations and the functional analysis of identified polymorphisms.

Gene, genome and population dynamics

This thematic is focused on the organisation and regulation of genome and epigenome expression, biostatistics applied to systems biology, characterization and management of animal biodiversity, genetics-genomics of populations and the environment.

Performance prediction

This thematic is aimed at predicting how traits are transmitted over generations (genetic improvement, genomic selection) and predicting phenotypes over the life of an individual (search for biomarkers for physiological states or in response to stress). The activities of the UMT 3G (Genetic and genomic management of bovine populations) are included here.

Cross-Cutting Axe

Modelling and Methodologies

Modelling is necessary for the three main research axes but our scientists also develop their own research in methodology on trait transmission (statistical genetics), evolution of allele and haplotype frequency and systems biology.
