The collect of phentoyping and genotyping data within the GenEndurance project has been completed with the analysis of over 1000 Arab breed horses specialized in endurance races. The first publications on metabolomic phentoyping and cardiac factors for performance are available. One paper published by Plos One has already had an international impact by changing endurance race regulations by the International Equine Federation (FEI).

The first phentoyping results have been collected on the metabolic and cardiac specificity of endurance exercise along with their genetic component. A relatively high heritability (0.45) for heart recovery time (which is an important component of performance) was estimated within the framework of M Younes' doctoral studies.     


New selection criteria based on indirect heart aptitude could be used for Arab breed endurance horses. 


Practical applications on the rules of elimination have already been considered by the FEI following the Plos One publication of July 2015.
